Welcome to Sage and Stone Homestead! Our main goal on our farm is to steward the land and the animals on it to the best of our ability while providing ourselves as much of our own food as possible. We raise our own dairy goats, pigs, rabbits, and many types of poultry from quail to ducks and of course, the humble chicken. We also have a large raised bed garden, an in-ground garden, and a big greenhouse for producing a significant amount of our own vegetables and fruits. We also dabble a little bit into beekeeping with our own colonies of Italian Honey Bees! It's a little of everything, and we love it!
There's never a dull moment on the farm. Each season brings its own main-focus: Springtime is When our main goat herd gives birth and comes into milk (yay, cheese!). Summer is when the garden is booming and needs a lot of attention and support to produce well. At the end of summer into fall we are heavy into the harvest and preservation of the garden. We use many preservation techniques on our modern homestead from freezing and canning to dehydrating as well as freeze-drying! Fall into winter we focus on our meat harvests that come from the land in two ways: intentionally grown and harvested from our livestock, and hunted. There's a little bit of rest towards the end of winter before the whole cycle starts over!
